Observation of super Coster-Kronig-pumped gain in Zn III.
We report the observation of laser gain in the vacuum ultraviolet pumped by super Coster-Kronig decay. Using a 5-J, 300-psec pump pulse of 1064-nm radiation, we have observed gain on transitions in Zn III at 127.0, 130.6, and 131.9 nm with total gains of exp(2.4), exp(5.1), and exp(3.2), respectively. The large branching ratios of the rapid super Coster-Kronig decay into a small number of final...
متن کاملProposal for an extreme-ultraviolet selective autoionization laser in Zn III.
A system is proposed whereby Zn atoms that are photoionized by soft x rays from a laser-produced plasma undergo selective super-Coster-Kronig decay leading to inversion and lasing on several XUV Zn III transitions. Calculations indicate that lasing will occur when a moderate-sized (~10-J) 1.06-microm pump laser is used.

متن کاملCounterintuitive dispersion violating Kramers-Kronig relations in gain slabs.
We demonstrate the counterintuitive dispersion effect that the peaks (dips) in the gain spectrum correspond to abnormal (normal) dispersion, contrary to the usual Kramers-Kronig point of view. This effect may also lead to two unique features: a broadband abnormal dispersion region and an observable Hartman effect. These results are explained in terms of interference and boundary effects. Finall...
متن کاملObservation of Raman Gain in Reduced Length of Bismuth Erbium Doped Fiber
Raman amplification of a 49 cm Bismuth oxide (Bi2O3) as a nonlinear gainmedium based erbium doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) is reported in new and compactdesign in near infrared spectral regions. The bismuth glass host provides theopportunity to be doped heavily with erbium ions to allow a compact optical gain fiberamplifier design by using reduced fiber length and the 1480...
